Blaze the Cat
From Sonic Earth
Blaze the Cat (ブレイズ ・ザ ・キャット, Bureizu za Kyatto?) is a fictional character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, created by Sonic Team and owned by Sega, who made her debut in the Nintendo DS video game, Sonic Rush. Blaze is a lavender, female anthropomorphic cat with yellow eyes. Due to heavily conflicting information she is either a queen who hails from the future or comes from the another dimension and is the defender of the Sol Emeralds, a role similar to that held by Knuckles. Blaze is often referred to as a queen; however she is called a princess in Sonic Rush. She's referred to as "Queen Blaze the Cat" on the official Sega of America Sonic mini site, Sonic Central, as well as the next Sonic the Hedgehog game website. In Japanese, her title is 皇女 kōjo, which translates as "imperial princess," suggesting that the references to "queen" are simply mistranslations.
In the English version of the games, Blaze is voiced by Bella Hudson. She was mistakenly credited as "Berra" Hudson in Sonic Rush, due to translation errors.
She wears gloves similar to those worn by Sonic, only with fuzzy lining on the cuffs. Her shoes have the same motif as Sonic's, but they also have fuzzy lining and are high-heeled. She also wears a purple coat, lined at the neck with gold and at the bottom with red, and a pair of white tights. She has a ponytail, and a jewel-like red orb is present on her forehead.

[edit] Game Appearances
Blaze and Sonic are the only playable characters in Sonic Rush, the game in which Blaze debuted. According to the storyline of the game, Blaze was a princess from another dimension, and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds. Throughout the game, she learns the meaning of friendship from Sonic and his friends, especially Cream the Rabbit. Cream opens her up to the world and the two become close friends, similar to the friendship of Sonic and Tails.
It is through the power of friendship that she realizes the true powers of the Sol Emeralds and transforms into "Burning Blaze" as a product of the Sol Emeralds, to help Super Sonic stop Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega from taking over the universe. After Sonic and Blaze finish their adventure, they promise to see each other again and say their goodbyes as they shake hands, being torn from each other as a result of their respective dimensions being returned to normal. Blaze now understands her power and the meaning of friendship as she thinks of Sonic's words of advice.
Blaze appears in the 15th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. In this game, she hails from the future. In the future, she constantly fights Iblis, along with the new character, her life-long friend Silver the Hedgehog.
Blaze the Cat seems to follow Silver throughout the game, whereas Silver shows signs of insecurity when she is not around. She seems to talk to Silver more than anyone else. At the end of Silver's story, Silver tries to seal Ibilis inside of his soul, but the Flames of Disaster won't accept him as the vessel. Blaze ends up sealing Iblis inside her soul, and begs Silver to use Chaos Control to seal them into another dimension. Silver refuses to because he says over and over he could never do that to her. He says that he doesn't know what he would do without her. Blaze smiles and says, "You're still so naive. But...I always liked that about you..." as she disappears and floats towards the sky. She then says, "Good luck, Silver." and drifts away. Later, Sonic and the others destroy Iblis and Mephiles as Solaris in past, present, and future, which erases the events of the game from history, meaning Blaze still exists.
Blaze is a playable character in the game's party mode. She's unlocked when the player collects 105 Fire Souls in the adventure mode.
Blaze returns in the Sonic Rush Adventure sequel as a playable character, once again appearing in her royal alternate dimension incarnation. She appears on Southern Island and runs into Sonic once again, both of them surprised to see each other. Unfortunately, her return apparently has something to do with the villainous Captain Whisker, a robotic pirate based on the island. It is later revealed that instead of Blaze ending up in Sonic's dimension, it is actually the opposite.
[edit] Personality
In the Sonic Rush game, Blaze is somewhat shy and withdrawn when meeting strangers, she does not let this prevent her from fulfilling her mission. Her lifestyle is similar to that of Knuckles and, like him, she is quite timid, often finding it hard to open up and talk to people. She hates having the spotlight upon herself, preferring to take a backseat. Throughout the course of Sonic Rush she develops a more friendly and outgoing personality.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 game, Blaze wears a cape because she was teased for her special fire abilities when she was a child, (This implies that her skin appears to be on fire, or that her skin is translucent showing flames underneath, or that her fire-related abilities have some other effect on her body's external surfaces.) However, she will toss off the cape in a heartbeat if she needs to use her abilities. Also according to Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure it's revealed that Blaze is afraid of heights
[edit] Major interaction with other characters
Blaze appears in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), somehow in the same time as Silver the Hedgehog. As a pyrokinetic in a world of psychokinetics, Blaze was teased by others, but Silver accepted her and thus the two are best friends. Together, they battle the Iblis who has destroyed their world. Blaze refers to Silver as "naïve", but before she completely seals Iblis, she tells him that she likes that about him. Strangely enough Silver does not mention her at all in Sonic Rivals, making it possible that they never met each other due to the time paradox created when all the events of the previous game were erased.
After Cream the Rabbit finds Blaze in Sonic Rush, she takes her to tea at her house. While she's there she meets Cream's mother, Vanilla. Blaze is shocked by how friendly Cream is. Blaze decides to go search for the Sol Emeralds, Cream offers to guide her. The two form a fast friendship as Cream helps Blaze in her search for the Emeralds. Cream is later kidnapped by Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega, and Blaze, admitting Cream is her friend, rescues her.
In Sonic Rush, the other characters suggest she should seek Sonic the Hedgehog's help - Blaze denies this and wonders why they are so dependent on him. However, through working with Sonic in order to save the universe from Eggman and Eggman Nega, the two become good friends, and before she goes back to her own dimension, she promises to meet him again.
That promise is fulfilled when they cross paths again in Sonic Rush Adventure. After saving the universe together once again, Blaze believes her meeting with Sonic may not be by chance but a destiny made by both the Chaos and Sol Emeralds.
[edit] Abilities
Blaze can run moderately fast but not as fast as Sonic. This has been proven in the multiplayer mode of Sonic Rush, in which she is considerably slower. However, her ability to jump much higher, therefore reaching certain platforms easier, gives her an advantage over Sonic in platforming situations. Attacking by spinning along the ground causes her to lose speed, unlike Sonic's classic spin attack. Blaze is able to control, create, and use fire, meaning she is a pyrokinetic. She uses her pyrokinetic abilities in conjunction with her claws, jumps, and kicks. She also uses her pyrokinetic abilities to propel herself in different directions. Blaze turns into a fiery tornado when jumping, similar to Espio the Chameleon in Knuckles Chaotix, and doesn't keep speed or go faster. By using the Sol Emeralds, Blaze is able to use super transformation and transform into Burning Blaze. It is interesting to note that Blaze is the first and (currently) only female character to have a super form, making her a popular character among female fans. Her super-form abilities differ from Sonic's in that she is able to throw fireballs similar to the Hadouken.
[edit] Super Forms
By using the transformation via the Sol Emeralds, Blaze the Cat can transform into Burning Blaze. Blaze's lavender fur becomes pink, and the details on the tip of her ponytail are erased. Her jacket and the tip of her tail become red, and the bottom rim of her jacket turns yellow. The cuffs on her gloves and shoes are engulfed in pink flames, and she is surrounded by an aura of fire.
Burning Blaze's gameplay is identical to that of Super Shadow's. Players can either rapidly press the attack buttons to launch a series of small fireballs, or hold down the attack button to launch a larger more powerful fireball. Players may also use charged dashes by pressing the jump buttons. However, these dashes are only for speed as she will still take damage if she dashes into an object. Blaze is the first and currently the only female Sonic character with a super transformation.
